A French research team from University and National Research Center has developed a new algorithm for data compression/decompression enabling large data applications as 3D in embedded or real-time systems. Licensing agreement, Codec standard or research projects are sought to collaborate on this patented technology.
Data compression algorithms based on vector quantization
with superior rendering quality, have been confined until now in academic areas due to computational
complexity. This complexity was an obstacle for large data to be compressed/uncompressed in embedded
or real-time systems. This problem no longer exists with this technology.
The French research team
has developed a new algorithm for data compression based on wavelet transform and quantization using
vectors Leaders. This provides a simplified quantization very time effective relatively to bitrates
and quality. Applied to static or animated 3D Data, this technology enables new performances and
capabilities to graphics visualization.
Innovative Aspects:
The developed application interface is
a 3D data CoDec working on meshes, in multi-resolution to ensure a smoothly display regardless the
size of the geometries. An implementation of the decompression in GP-GPU (General Purpose Graphic
Processing Unit) allows direct visualization of the compressed geometry on the graphics card.
This
API (Application Programming Interface) allows to implement easily 3D data decompression for a
graphic application.
Advantages and benefits :
- Better performance vs bitrates
- Better quality vs
bitrates
- Real-time 3D decompression
- Adaptive resolution regarding performance and hardware
